I made this one a while ago and it was my first somewhat decent face, which isn't saying much considering that the eyes are hidden. I'd like to redo this when I'm better though.
Thanks! For all my other drawings I usually start with an HB then darken some values with 2, 4, 6, and 8B pencils. (All graphite)
This one was a little different though, because I used charcoal pencils. I find them a little hard to work with but they're nice because you can get blacks so easily, without making the paper all shiny.
I thought so, because of how big the strokes were, but I wasn't sure. Yeah, charcoal is awesome for blacks! Yes, I've gotten that so many times with my drawings. "Tilt it, I can't see it because of the shine" has become a repeated phrase with my drawings that have black on them.
Again, good job. Another question while I'm at it. Are you taking pictures of these drawings, or are you scanning them? Because if you're taking them with your camera, you have an amazing skill at getting only the picture! :)
(can I say it? But you might want to set the Black and White setting on your camera/scanner so that you don't get natural orange-yellow-blue light in it, plus it will make the black on the drawings look blacker. Just a thought.)
I have been taking pictures of my drawings, but my camera doesn't have a black and white setting.
Yesterday I found an option that automatically touches up pictures though. I tried it on a few drawings, and it makes them look a lot better! (it makes the blacks look blacker, more like a scanned picture)
Oooo, methinks doth did a good job :)
ReplyDeleteThe connection where the lip is getting bent by the pipe looks really good... there's even a little shine from the glow from the ember in his pipe.
What pencils are you using for these drawings??

Your welcome! Same here for graphite pencils.

Ah, ok. Still, I'm impressed with the way the pictures turned out.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! Even without being B&W, they still look good. I though you had scanned them in, not taken pictures of them by hand :)
